Sweetest Scents
By Morgan Smith
Different scents carry their own nostalgia, each a forest to memory. A whiff of vanilla transports you to a small bakery, where the kitchen hems with warmth, the air thick with a sweet haze of cookies baking, surrounded by an array of delights—brownies, thick with fudge, melting sweetly on the tongue. There’s an elegance in this aroma, an air of sophistication that clings to your skin, just as it does to the treats being made.
Then there’s a floral scent, reminiscent of annuals, fresh greenery like a bouquet gifted on a date, its saccharine sweetness heavy in the air. Scents hold a familiar embrace, symbols of status and longing. They can be what they wish, transforming memories into something tangible, whatever they desire to evoke.
Author’s Note: I use writing as a way to express myself. It helps me complete my thoughts without me having to explain it outwardly. Writing doesn't need to be a competition; it can be a hobby or a way to preoccupy your time. My inspiration for this piece is how scents can bring nostalgia; everyday we smell something familiar and that could bring comfort to one's being.
