Maze of Sand
Sagy Sobhy
The sun’s heat blistered his shoulders
as winds flow over fresh footprints.
A man in his traveling gear
traverses the rough sand
no saving grace had been found.
Water is scarce as he chugs from the bottle,
droplets moisten his cracked lips
soaking his parched throat for now.
But food is nowhere to be found,
his rations have been depleted
and a hollow crater fills his stomach.
Desert rabbits dart away
before he can creep anywhere near.
Food is now an expensive luxury
and he is a poor man
so he pays with his body, withering away.
He sees an oasis from a distance.
Collapsing to his knees he attempts to drink
water then turns back to dry sand.
