The wrods "the student is the class" were placed in a welcome speech to parents by Mr. delaRosa after he hired me as a teacher at Miami Arts Charter School. LINK to the speech

Teachers hunt for mentors for their students. Here I am (right) talking with a video gamer (Justin) who helped me reach a 14-year-old who didn't like to read.

Teachers should have portfolios, too.

Hello. These links go to some of the websites that show different ways of "showing what I can do."

**My Big Moment was realizing in May 2017 that Tai Lopez inspired my students more than I did. It was time to make a poster and get out of the way.

Tony Wagner puts it this way :

This moment in August 2013 took four years to create. I had to meet Dr. Fischler and help edit his book first...then I hunted for a principal who would listen to the idea that "time is a variable." Alfred de la Rosa listened. HIS SCHOOL

To get to meet Dr. Fischler in 2009, it took me four years to get through learning about Big Picture Learning schools (the Littky Radio interview on April 25, 2005)

Aims

I agree with Tai Lopez (called "one of the most annoying people on YouTube"by some of my students, yet he should be awarded Reading Teacher of the Year for his "Gold Nuggets" approach to reading -- see posters). Tai says that we should spend 1/3 of our time helping people, 1/3 of our time with colleagues and 1/3 of our time with people who are mentors***. ... so this is an invitation to any teacher or "educationalist" (Wes Green's term) to get together by phone, over coffee/tea or by email.

I want to see teachers using Portfolios for their own work and for students (to encourage students to colelct and display their work). You are invited to download free ebooks to support this effort. Best Practices Workbook

*** here is one of my menters: I found the format for this section of my DP on Douglas Kiang's website. I recommend that you read his blogpost about handwritten vs. typewritten tests (and the bias toward handwritten work). He agreed to let me include some screenshots of his website in the Best Practices ebook (free)

My certification (I passed 8 subjects)

My attempt to get more teachers and parents to read Dennis LIttky's book The Big Picture: education is Everyone's Business.
