Three parts for the transformation (personalization) of schools:
1) Computer to search for information
2) Projects to build understanding
3) Discussions to learn from others and practice organizing information. (Presentations are needed)

1) BY PROVIDING FREE INFORMATION TO PARENTS, STUDENTS AND OTHERS.
2)By collecting your suggestions. We will post the best suggestions HERE
We can start by looking at the “Met Center” (a Big Picture Learning school). We see:
REPLY: Would you participate if this site charged you $10 (ten dollars) a month? We want to support the rapid transformation of schools. We are donating time to help you get information that will make portfolios, projects and personalization easier for you to put in place in your classes.
REPLY: We often learn better if we talk. We expose what we might not know (or what we are not sure about) when we make a presentation. If there is a dialog, then the gaps might appear more quickly than if we asked you to submit an essay. If you talk, you will tell us what you have learned. The phone call and dialogue by text are two other ways to check to make sure that you "get" this new shared mindset. You might also mention materials and authors that our site has overlooked. The phone number (+1 954 693-6379) is a Google Voice number, so you can text there and we can see the message on a computer.
REPLY: We are always getting more volunteers, so the waiting time for someone to reply to your message is going to fluctuate. Be patient. If you need a quicker reply, we can send you additional information by text message.
REPLY: you are being kind. Other people call our style "amateurish" and "unprofessional." We prefer to set a low bar so that people who are not skilled with a camera will feel OK about sending us a roughly made video. The key points are (1) have good sound and (2) hold the camera still.
REPLY: Howard Gardner makes it clear that there should be more than one way to assess a person’s mastery of a subject. Some people are inspired speakers and actors, but have a difficult time writing. Some people are good at building teams but do poorly when acting alone.
In the real world, these people are called “managers” (because they know how to delegate). They don’t have to know how to do everything well. However, schools test students in a way that guarantees that most people who are good in one area are going to feel terrible about themselves because they can’t perform up to a standard in another area. In the work place, employees don’t have to perform in a well-rounded way. That’s why there is division of labor in an organization.
If you want to "perform your understanding" by talking instead of writing, go ahead. That's what YouTube is for.
Teaching for Understanding Howard Gardner
Other videos on this site are less "professional," but the information is still valuable.
Teachers have heard about the need to -- individualize and personalize the curriculum -- build portfolios of student work -- move away from presenting information (teaching) -- create opportunities for fully guided instruction, leading to projects with minimal guidance Why not use the experience of teachers like Matt Blazek, who uses projects and discussions to encourage students to learn? -- Tony Wagner
If we can get principals to agree with Tony Wagner, then we can build an audience for the Speakers of the Speakers Bureau and other experts on PERSONALIZATION, such as Dennis Littky and Elliot Washor
This site began by seeking to "build a tribute to Fischler"
...and use his book of commentaries and posters as a starting point for a workshop... even an online workshop.
The workshop builds the VOCABULARY for personalization of the high school experience (the title of deMartino and Clarke's book)
The next step is to build a consensus that "a big project covering three or four subjects, gaining credit from three or four teachers, is more likely to be called IMPORTANT by students. ... especially if we treat each kid as an individual."
TinyURL.com/exampleDP, a large portfolio by Ben Staley, a graduate of High Tech High School
The remarkable "Man who saved the world in 1983 -- Stanislav" by two students in Shanghai TINYURL.com/SUNNHD look at that project and students will say, "Whoa" and perhaps "I could do something cool like that" or "I could NEVER do that" (and then the teacher guides the student, step by step, to find their BIG PROJECT)
Highland Park High School (under principal Enrique Gonzalez) used the PERSONAL HISTORY PROJECT (based on the Big Picture Learning's method of the "10th grade Gateway project") , which was a form of the big project.
A teacher who focuses on The big project then leads the way to EXHIBITION and a VIDEO about the big project
---then where does that video go? Where is the project exhibited?
in a PORTFOLIO... and those portfolios are part of the PERSONALIZATION of the education.
the CENTER FOR PPP....in a school is a place to go (even in each classroom, or down the hall) to get the resources that we have collected
