The Gathering Place is Byrne Creek's very own Indigenous student center, and it has been called "the best space in the school!"
The Gathering Place is an inclusive, friendly, and safe space that openly celebrates our indigenous students and their cultures. Indigenous students and their peers come to connect daily over food, music, and friends. Anyone who walks in will be warmly welcomed.
Our Indigenous Support Team is based out of The Gathering Place. This includes our Indigenous Youth Worker and Success Teacher.
Mendo Bjarnason is our Indigenous Youth Worker. She works to support students with their social and emotional needs. In addition, Mendo helps make greater connections with parents & families of our indigenous students. She also helps facilitate and run indigenous cultural programs such as drum making, indigenous art projects, workshops with elders, indigenous food making, girls groups and more!

Giuliano Vigna is our Indigenous Success Teacher. He works to enhance the academic and social network between our Indigenous learners and the school community. His position is to ensure that our Indigenous students have the supports necessary to be academically successful - whatever that may mean to the student.
