The Success Program, which assists students with homework and assignments, runs after school in the library. Students are supported by a peer tutor or a teacher.
To connect with Success:
· Students may choose to attend.
· Parents may request that their child attend.
· Teachers may assign a student to the Success Program if they think it would be beneficial.
Learning Support is designed for students who need extra support with regular classroom assignments, academic skill development, executive functioning, and organization.
There are two options for students to receive Learning Support:
Support Block: This is an enrolling class and admission is screened through the School-Based Resource Team. A letter grade is not given.
Drop-in LSS: This optional support is available for any student who is requiring additional academic assistance. it is offered throughout the school day in our Learning Centre.
The aim of this program is to provide students with the broadest range of skills, experiences and knowledge to become as “work-ready” as possible. After finishing their grade 12 year, students receive a school-leaving certificate (Evergreen). The program curriculum encompasses modified academic studies in English, Social Studies, Math and Science, a Functional Living Skills program, career and personal planning.
The Alternate Program is a self-contained classroom which allows students from grades 10-12 the opportunity to find success in high school. Students work in small groups or on an individual basis on an adapted program with the goal of receiving a Dogwood Certificate. Admission is for based on administrative approval.
The Access Program provides a wide range of supports throughout a student’s high school years. Individualized programs are designed in consultation with teachers, parents/guardians, educational assistants and outside agencies. The program includes integrated classes, work experience, functional academics, and community-based life skills. After finishing their grade 12 year, students receive a school-leaving certificate (Evergreen).
The Gathering Space is an inclusive room where Byrne Creek's Indigenous students and their culture are celebrated. Our Indigenous Education Program, which is based out of this space, provides a variety of academic and cultural-based programming.
