Ms Woo and Mr. Shorthouse are the district Career Education Advisors at Byrne Creek. This district program provides oppprtunities for work experience and industry training. Industry Training Programs provide the opportunity for students in grades 11 & 12 to gain knowledge and skills that can lead to industry certification, apprenticeship, and the development of a portfolio. These can support application to post-secondary programs and/or employment.
Career Life Connections prepares our grade 11 and 12 students for success after high school. It is a mandatorycourse for graduation. Throughout their graduaion year, students complete a variety of assignments related to their personal, social, and educational experiences. The assignments help prepare them for the Capstone Project and the Presentation in Grade 12 which is a culminating assignment celebrating their learning journey. Students must also choose a mentor that they meet with three times during the school year. The mentor helps guide their student by discussing their goals and potential Capstone Project ideas with them. CLC is overseen by Jean Woo and Steve Shorthouse.
