Mandarin studies at Byrne usually begin in Grade 9, but the option to join later with Mandarin 11 Intro is also available to our students. Mandarin is the most widely spoken language in the world. Its significance to world affairs cannot be underestimated. The challenge of learning this pictographic language and its many thousands of characters is offset by the innovative Pinyin spelling system. Learners of Mandarin can enjoy business, personal and cultural opportunities throughout the world. Independent and motivated learners wishing to excel can also write the AP Chinese Language and Culture exam.
