Tracy (Saller) Papesh (Class of 1985) was one of the most accomplished and influential multi-sport athletes in Beecher High School history, excelling in both basketball and softball during the early 1980s.
On the softball field, Tracy earned First Team Kankakee Valley Conference honors in 1985 and was a part of a KVC championship team in 1983. Her basketball career, however, set historic benchmarks. She was a key contributor to back-to-back IHSA Regional Championship teams during the 1982-83 and 1983-84 seasons. Tracy was named KVC Player of the Year in 1985 and earned Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Fourth Team All-State honors. In her senior year, she became the first 1,000-point scorer in Beecher High School girls basketball history and finished her career with 1,177 points.
Following graduation, Tracy continued her basketball career at Valparaiso University, competing from 1985–1987. Known for her court vision and leadership, she led the team in assists during both the 1985-86 and 1986-87 seasons, proving her ability to elevate teammates at the collegiate level.
Tracy’s impact on Beecher High School athletics helped pave the way for excellence in girls athletics and inspired those who followed in her footsteps. Her place in Beecher athletic history is firmly cemented. Tracy passed away in 2022.
