The Beecher High School Athletic Hall of Fame Commission is pleased to announce Cathy Burkert as a member of the 2023 Hall of Fame Class. Cathy, a 1999 Beecher graduate, rewrote the record books during her time on the basketball court for the Ladycats.
Cathy was a double double machine from the get go for the Ladycats. In her sophomore season Cathy averaged 17 points and 12 rebounds per game. She was named first team all area by the Kankakee Daily Journal and also first team All River Valley Conference.
During Cathy’s junior season in 1997-98, she set a school record by averaging 23.9 points per game and 12.8 rebounds per game. Records that still stand today. After her tremendous junior season, she was named first team All RVC, first team All Area, and was also named honarable mention All State by the associated press.
In her senior season in 98-99, Cathy did not slow down. She averaged 22 points and 12.5 rebounds per game while shooting 62.8% from the field for the Ladycats. She was again named first team All RVC and. first team All Area. Cathy became the first and to date only, Beecher girls basketball player to be named to first team All Kankakee Daily Journal All Area team all 4 years. She finished her illustrious career with 1,925 points which is still a school record. She currently holds the school record for highest field goal percentage by making 57.3% of her field goal attempts in her career. She also holds the school record for most points in a game with 39 and most rebounds in a game with 24.
