The Beecher High School Athletic Hall of Fame Commission is pleased to announce Griffin Nykaza as a part of the 2025 Hall of Fame class.
Griffin Nykaza, a 2011 graduate, established himself as one of the school’s most decorated cross country and track athletes. In cross country, Nykaza was a four-year letter winner and a three-time All-State runner. In cross country, he placed 10th in the state meet during his junior season and improved to 8th as a senior. His senior season he ran a personal best time of 15:05 at the state meet, helping lead Beecher to a Class 1A state championship title.
On the track, Nykaza’s dominance was equally impressive. He was a four-year starter and letter winner, capturing the 800-meter state title as a junior with a time of 1:56. That same year, he was recognized as the Northwest Indiana Times Male Athlete of the Year. Nykaza’s contributions extended to the 4x800 meter relay team, where he helped secure back-to-back state championships. Over his career, he achieved personal bests of 1:54 in the 800m and 4:23 in the 1600m, solidifying his place as one of the state’s elite runners.
Nykaza continued his athletic career at Illinois State University for one season, where he competed in both indoor and outdoor track events, as well as cross country.
