The Beecher Athletic Hall of Fame is pleased to announce the 1977 boys cross country team as a member of the 2020 Beecher Hall of Fame class. Steve Currins led this team to a second-place finish at the state cross country meet at Detweiller Park in Peoria, Illinois. At the time, the second-place state trophy was the first state trophy in the history of the school.
Over the course of the season, the Bobcats went undefeated in all of their conference meets and were named Kankakee Valley Conference champions. The Bobcats continued their run in the postseason and earned a district championship. They finished second in the sectional meet before earning a second-place finish at the state meet.
Members of the team include: Steve Currins (Coach), Luigi Buffone, Mike Mulcahy, Henry Nykaza, Kevin O'Grady, Dwayne Shields, Mike Stluka, and Tom Stluka
The team will be honored, along with the other inductees, in between the junior varsity and varsity boys basketball game on Saturday, February 15th around 3:00 pm at the high school. The inductees will also be honored at a special banquet at Cardinal Creek Golf Club later that evening. The event is open to the public and the cost is $40 per person.
