Michael Barber (Class of 2015) Beecher High School golf career stands as one of the most accomplished in program history. Beginning in the fall of 2011, as a freshman, he won a regional title in a playoff, earned Daily Journal All-Area honors, and quickly emerged as Beecher’s top scorer.
From 2012–2014, Barber elevated both his individual play and the Beecher golf program to historic levels. He was a four-time individual regional medalist, a rare feat in IHSA history. His top score each year at regionals also played a key role in Beecher capturing 4 regional titles during his career. Barber qualified for the IHSA State Tournament three times, highlighted by an 11th-place finish in 2013 and a fifth-place All-State medal in 2014. This was the very first golf state medal in the history of BHS. During his senior season, he also helped Beecher earn its first-ever team berth at the IHSA State Finals, where the Bobcats finished ninth overall in Class 1A.
Barber was a three-time Kankakee Daily Journal Golfer of the Year, RVC Player of the Year, and a dominant presence in invitationals and summer tours statewide. Beyond scores, he was praised by his coaches for leadership and composure while on the course.
Barber’s success continued seamlessly at the collegiate and amateur levels. At Millikin University, Barber was a consistent lineup anchor, earning multiple top-10 collegiate finishes, including a playoff runner-up at the 2019 Adidas Intercollegiate in South Carolina. A two-time Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar, he graduated with a degree in accounting and finished his collegiate career with a 76.62 scoring average, ranking top-10 all-time in program history.
