School closure Sp 2020

Online Schedule: COVID-19 apcentral.collegeboard.org AP's youtube presentations for Eng Lang & Comp ZoomClassroom All Periods every Tues at 4pm & Email me for individual appointment

Weeks 10 & 11 (May 26-June 5)First of all, let me express my admiration for your courage and perseverance during this pandemic. You have faced and endured upheavals not only in your education, but also in our society, your personal lives, and in our very world. And though your disappointing sacrifices have been great, your courage and adaptability have been even greater. I am proud to have had a part in your education.
Please fill out this Experience Log whether you took the AP yesterday or not.
Here's your final project: Due no later than June 1, at 11:45 pm, but I would like at least 50 of you to finish it before and present it so we can have shorter Zoom sessions during your final week. If not enough people finish early, then we will need to have long sessions in your final week.
Part 1 - (60%)Create a 1-minute Farewell video which will be shared with the world. Think of this video as your personal valedictorian speech. Please be positive. Think of all the fun and the growth experiences you have had. Say goodbye. Your speech MUST be school appropriate. Please refrain for negativity regarding others.Your speech will be published. Every ESHS Senior taking English will be doing this project and all your speeches will be in a shared folder. Refrain from obscenities, vulgarities, and off color remarks, as any valedictorian speech would do. Any video NOT meeting these criteria will NOT be shared. I reserve the right to decide if a video is not fitting these parameters and therefore, not school appropriate.
Part 2 - Required Zoom (20%) Zoom: https://lmusoe.zoom.us/j/7972079735 In addition to your video being shared with the world, you will also share your video with classmates in a Zoom session. Please sign here up to present your speech. I have chosen times which are designated for specific periods as well as open times. You are free to attend sessions to which you are not presenting. I will NOT excuse you from other class Zoom sessions to attend ours, just pick a different time to present. Please identify yourself with your First and Last Name in Zoom. I will not admit anyone whom I do not recognize. If you invite another student not in AP Lang, you need to send me an email with that person's Full Name and I will admit them based on your recommendation. I am asking some of you who finish early to present first, before the actual due date. (It's only a 1-minute speech, please consider presenting early). There are no presentations on June 5 because that is the AP Lang exam make up day.
Part 3 - Script of Speech (20%)I require a script of your speech. Hence, I want your speech to be carefully thought out. I don't want you to wing it. Valedictorians do not wing their speeches.
Turn in your Video and Script at this Google Form: 1-minute farewell speech video
You are nearly done.-=Ray

Email me any questions. Let me know if you wish to meet in Zoom. The new Essay Rhetorical Essay Prompt is found in PowerSchool Unified Classroom. It is under AP Test 4 (15). Before you write, please review what you should include in Rhetorical Analysis. See Close Reading and what you should include in your essay (see Infograph).
This is how it will be evaluated by the College Board:1. In your introduction, state in 1-2 sentences your understanding of the author's message. Clarify the context, rhetorical situation (why the author is writing). In your thesis, preview your approach. (AP Rubric Score: Row A - 1 point)
2. When you Close Read the passage, note what pops out at you. Discuss these 3, 4 or 5 items and tell HOW and WHY the author used these items in the piece. The author is making a single point with all the rhetorical choices. Be sure to say how the items you chose to expound upon contribute to the author's point. (AP Rubric Score: Row B - 1-4 points) - You must realize that the standard is NOT 45 minutes of high school writing, but 45 minutes of college level writing. (You must be able to produce enough analysis to satisfy a college professor.)
3. Put it all together in a cohesive and well-written essay. This is the sophistication criterion. (AP Rubric Score: Row C - 1 point)
On May 20, 11 AM you will be taking the AP exam. You will have 45 minutes to write a Rhetorical Analysis essay. I recommend that you start practicing writing for 45 minutes. You will have an opportunity later to improve the essay for this project. Try limiting your FIRST writing to 45 minutes so you can get a realistic idea of what you can accomplish at this point. Most of you will need to improve on this, of course.
Due Wed night, April 28, by 11:45 PM. Turn in your 45 minute Rhetorical Analysis Essay by Filling out the Learning Log 1 - Chavez. Be honest in the Learning Log. This has nothing to do with points. This is to help you understand how you are performing at this point for the AP exam.
