Afterlight - Tidehaven

History

The youngest city of Thorin, belonging to no court. Tidehaven is as their name suggests, a haven amidst roaring tides on the southernmost east coast of Thorin, acting as the major trade hub between the fae of Thorin and people of Brelaton. There is only one primary language of this city, money. That same principal founded the city as a whole, bridging the divide between the two continents with the universal language of commerce.

Tidehaven is run by an aristocratic oligarchy of three governing officials, supposedly gaining power through deed and title, but in truth through bribes, treachery and placing the right bets with the right people. The three chancellors control the three main aspects of the city. Commerce, people and military. Rulings affecting more than a single chancellors domain are voted upon during council, a consensus between them is needed to pass a ruling.

Society

Some say that money talks, and in Tidehaven, it does all the talking you will ever need. Pirates, pickpockets, mercenaries and bounty hunters can fill their pockets with coin, only for it to be taken by a nimbly fingered escort should they fail to pay attention. Trade and thievery are often one in the same, merchant stalls and shops are more plentiful than homes and honest folk are hard to come by, thus protected at all costs.

Fae and human alike walk through Tidehaven, diversity in every form to folk with scales to those with fur. Appearance and race means little unless you can use it to earn some coin. Atula and Ceada are both welcomed with open palms and greedy fingers.

Yet despite it all, the city isn't hollow or dark. Homeless are cared for, the streets are kept clean and music echo's through the cobblestone streets when the sun shines. People dance on the street, splashing through puddles and belting out songs. Thievery and crime may run amok, but life doesn't slow in its wake and the people of Tidehaven take it in stride to find a silver lining around every storm cloud.

Military

Shielded and protected by the Courts of Thorin, Tidehaven has little need for a military force of their own, boasting only a single naval force.

The Phantom Brine

Oppressors of the misty seas of Tidehaven's coast, it's said if you catch sight of the Phantom fleet, it will be the last thing you ever see.

Their ships are carved with mist runes, carrying shrouds of fog with them wherever they sail, making them appear as a ghost fleet.
They target pirate ships who have forgotten the order of things in Tidehaven's waters, their reminders brought in the form of sunken ships beneath red-stained waters.
