History
Caelum was born from chains. Not the ones that hold it now, but the ones that once shackled its people. Centuries ago, when Bannhaven was still rising to prominance, many elven clans were enslaved under human and merchant lords, used for labor and servitude. Though some elves were integrated into Bannhaven's culture, a growing number resisted the slow erasure of their identity and autonomy.
A group of enslaved elves eventually escaped and fled to the eastern peaks of Brelaton. There, in desperation, they called out to the stars and sky, and something answered. The legends speak of a goddess cloaked in windlight (her name long lost), who took pity on their suffering. With her blessing, the exiles rose their new home into the sky, uprooting the land beneath them with magic so powerful it tore a crater into the world. This massive scar, now called the Chain Crater, remains the most potent leyline nexus in Brelaton, glowing faintly with mana to this day.
To keep Caelum tethered to the mortal world, the founders bound it with six immense astral chains, anchored around the crater's rim. Thus began the Age of Ascent, marking Caelum's birth as a free kingdom. Relations with Bannhaven have remained cold ever since.
