Afterlight - Mithrim

History

Once residents of the prideful dwarven kingdom of Knurl, the founders of Mithrim long sought freedom amongst the open sky and warmth over the frosted depths of their labyrinthian mountain home, rejecting the old ways brought forth by Tharn Knurlborne. Their beliefs brought forth rebellion, and through rebellion came violent conflict between two opposing forces. Those who gripped tightly onto outdated ideals and stand firm against the shifts brought by generations past, and those who sought growth and to change with the tides of time.

Realising the stubbornness and unwillingness to change, the rebellion chose to leave Knurl, traveling until they found refuge within the redwoods. They forged bonds with the dryads and fairies of the Redwood Forest, forging homes from wood and thatch instead of stone and ice, high above the ground that had held them captive for so many generations. Knurl still sees them as cloud-gazing fools while their town grows amongst the trees. They view Knurl just as bitterly as the old labyrinthian clings to outdated ideals.

Society

The dwarves of Mithrim brought with them a ferocious tenacity to their new home. Craftsmanship dwells within a dwarfs blood and desire to create could never be snuffed out. To work is to live, but there are more ways to work than over a forge or with a pickaxe, and more peaceful ways to resolve conflicts than bloodshed.

The clans of knurl were left behind in the founding of Mithrim, the dwarves and creatures of the forest define themselves as individuals by their craftsmanship and product rather than strength or politics. The craftsmen of Mithrim work with wood and magic over the stone and iron of Knurl, oftentimes with the help of more magically adept residents of the forest such as dryads, fairies and satyrs.

The tree dwelling town adopts a rather lively and open culture, sporting avians, orcs, nymphs and wood elves among the dwarves.

Military

Mithrim's army tends to be looked down upon by other kingdoms. Warfare tends to be scrutinized by the people of the redwood forest, and their small military force reflects as such.

The Sequoia Weavers

A force of experienced climbers who protect Mithrim amidst the trees. Known for wearing light armour and working in organized packs.

While not very experienced in face to face combat, they specialize in the creation of traps, both lethal and not.
Many of the forces are comprised of the more nimble races of Mithrim.

The Arboreal Division

The forces that defend the ground of Mithrim, leading patrols and checking the health of the trees holding up their homes.

Generally made up of those who prefer to be closer to the ground than high in the trees.
Most are trained with minor botanical skills.
