History
Tucked within the biting winds and iron-clad ridges of the Guntera Mountains, Knurl is a kingdom chiseled from ice, stone, and uncompromising dwarven pride. Its founding is attributed to Tharn Knurlborne, a war-hardened dwarf of the ancient clans who led his kin into the mountains after their surface holds fell to frost and famine. Legend says he struck his axe into a granite cliff and found veins of blood-iron and gold running through the mountain's heart, a sign from the deep gods to dig, build, and endure.
Over centuries, Knurl expanded vertically, downward into the mountain's frozen belly, and upward to the frost-choked peaks. Today, the kingdom is a labyrinth marvel of stone cities, magma-lit forge halls, and frozen barracks, all connected by heat-shielded tramways, rune-lit tunnels, and chasm-bridging lifts.
Despite their hard-won prosperity, Knurl's dwarves bear a long-standing rivalry with Mithrim, a settlement of surface-dwelling dwarves exiled generations ago after a violent ideological rift. Knurl sees them as soft-handed metal thieves. Mithrim sees Knurl as bitter relics.
