Adobe After Effects(Rolling Cube)

AE is a software used to create video and animation effects.

It was my first time to use AE. Learning and produce simple animation.

Following the tutorial video steps step by step, I gradually mastered some AE skills and understood how to use AE.

Adobe illustrator

Adobe illustrator is a drawing software.

Using Adobe illustrator helps me create graphics and shapes that can be combined to produce many different results.

This is a novel experience for me, because most of the time I use procreate for drawing, and using Ai helps me get a lot of fresh results.

I used AI to try to piece together the shape of a cat.

It looked a little stiff but also had something special about computer graphics.

Work For Collaboration With Music/Sound Students

Use drawing software (Adobe illustrator/procreate...etc.) and Adobe After Effect to produce audio-related video creations for sound/music students. After listening to each audio and understanding the author's creative ideas and background, I determined my favorite and helped me make better animations.

lamasickhuman is my favorite one because it has a strong emotion on it, it has a sound of man yelling/screaming. The sound of rain and the gentle sound of piano are always in the background music, which can make people feel the depressed emotions. At the climax of the music, the sound of lightning brings the emotion to the highest point, making people deeply immersed in the emotions brought by the music.

Mood Board Research

For the Mood Board, I mainly searched for pictures about lightning, cloudy days, and rainy days. While I was searching I came across a very interesting quote 'Rain is the God's fireworks'. This got me thinking about social issues related to the depressing emotions brought on by lamasickhuman, suicide. Fireworks are often associated with suicide in Japan because their beauty is always fleeting. I think this is like lightning in a thunderstorm. It is also instantaneous, but it bursts out with a huge sound. I also searched for some pictures related to millennium and dreamcore, and this style became the main tone of my animation. Regarding characters, I searched for some pictures of character deformations to use as pattern changes in animations.

I looked for line shapes in the image and emphasized them as the main line style for my animation.

Mood Board

For the Mood Board, I enriched the colors of the fireworks and combined them graphically to create an explosion-like effect. I cut out the shape of the firework and liquefied it to make its lines sharper and clearer. I also stretched the rain picture along the lines of the rain to get a curved shape. I chose black and red as the main color bases, because these two colors can bring relatively strong emotional effects. Color is used as the main color in the explosion process because when all colors are mixed together you will get black.

I dyed the model figures bright, firework-like colors and distorted them to get the effect I wanted in Animation.

For the effect of animation deformation, I searched for some animation pictures and videos as reference pictures.

Inspiration shapes for lamasickhuman

I used AI to piece the geometry together to get a rough shape, resembling a human shape.

I also drew a water drop shape as part of the animation.

After drawing the character's shape more specifically, I stretched and deformed the character's shape to get something resembling a firework explosion.

Combining two colors together results in an image of color bursting out of the character.

After combining all the shapes together, you get a picture with fireworks as the main shape. Rain is like a kind of pressure. When it continuously hits the character, all the colors will explode from the character's body and become distorted.

Sharp lines and shapes run through the entire graphic background like lightning.

Storyboard

I want to create an animation in which after the rain falls, a person emerges from the rain, then explodes and then deforms, and finally returns to a calm animation.

I drew the ideas in my mind and the experiments I had done, imported them into Ae and animated them.

The progress of my drawing, I was thinking to start with a lighter and eye catch background, but during my process, I felt that use a color that not to light can show the main character much better, so I focus the color on the character and make others all saturation reduced.
