A self-reflective evaluation statement that discusses my views on work and final submission
After 9 weeks of Animation Narrative learning, I have gained a lot and learned a lot of new knowledge.
In the initial course, we studied 7 Archetypal Narrative Arcs, which made me understand the main classification of movies. This allows me to first clarify the emotion and genre I want to express when creating in the future, so that I can work with purpose and clarity.
In the subsequent study of film lenses, I learned more about the language of film lenses, which allowed me to understand the different effects of different lenses. As the emotions and stories you want to express change, the use of lenses must also change to make the movie more fascinating. When I was working on The Landlady Animatic, I used many different film lenses. This allowed me to successfully create some shots that I was very happy with, and it also made it easier for me to depict the story.
After learning about lens-related knowledge, I couldn’t help but start observing some lens designs when playing games. In the game Detroit: Become Human, designers designed many lens changes to allow players to feel the development of the story and emotional changes more deeply. This made me understand the importance of lenses even more.
After creating independent storyboards and animatics, I found that it would be much easier to create after learning about film-related knowledge. At the same time, I also discovered some of my own creative problems. For example, my shots sometimes switch too fast for the audience to clearly capture every detail. Another example is that I need to enrich the story more to make the movie more interesting.
I still need more photography practice. My lens is still very amateur, so the film effect is not very good. This makes me a little annoyed and I want to improve myself even more.
The painting production for Animatic needs to be more refined to make the animated shots look clearer and clearer. At the same time, the storyboard also needs to be improved repeatedly to improve the completeness and smoothness of the story.
After learning this knowledge, when I draw storyboards and animations, I will first clarify the main emotion of the story before drawing. In the process of painting, you need to pay attention to the changes in the lens, and add appropriate lenses to tell the story with different emotions.
When doing work such as live action, I also need to improve my photography skills and pay more attention to lens language such as light source and lens color to enrich the story.
What I need to do in the future is to learn more about Animation Narrative and combine it with other assignments to make the work more complete and perfect. This semester's study is undoubtedly valuable and very beneficial to me.
