Teachers and staff of U.S.D. 112 enhanced their knowledge regarding how we can more effectively work with students that have experienced or are dealing with traumatic life events. I am very proud of the Wilson teachers and staff for their dedicated work to better serve the students.

Homecoming is around the corner. Make plans to join us for our annual parade through downtown!

Thursday morning we did something exciting and new! You’ll have to stay tuned to see what it is!!

Thursday afternoon with temperatures in the mid 90’s, our cross country runners represented the Purple and White quite well in Bennington. Kaitlyn missed a medal by one place in the 7th grade girls race!

Sherry Sloan set to retire September 25

Our beloved Sherry Sloan is retiring next week, Wednesday, September 25. Sherry has been with the district for 27 years. Starting in 1992, Sherry started working in the kitchen. Sherry worked two years on the custodial staff. She began her technology journey in 2001 as the computer para and became the technology coordinator in 2004 for Wilson Schools. She has been in this position for 15 years.

Sherry always finds the time to help students, teachers and staff and has been a treasured asset to Wilson Schools. We all wish her good luck in the future!

Happy Retirement, Sherry!

This Week in Wilson...

First year FFA members, or Greenhands, attended the FFA Greenhand Conference in Salina this week. They joined over 300 other new FFA members learning about FFA traditions and building leadership skills.

Wilson teachers and staff traveled to Claflin this week for an inservice. They joined other USD 112 staff to learn about Trauma Sensitive Schools.

The WHS Volleyball competed in a quad this week at WHS. The team beat Natoma, but came up short against Sylvan-Lucas and Osborne. The volleyball team will compete in a tournament on Saturday, September 21 in Tescott. Their first match will be against Sylvan-Lucas at 9 AM. Good luck girls!

The WJHS volleyball and football team met the Stockton Tigers in games on Thursday. The football team beat Stockton 34 - 22. The volleyball teams played A, B, and C team matches against Stockton. As Stockton had 31 girls, our girls had a lot of court time to work on their game skills.

The Wilson Jr. High and High School Eco-Meet teams are practicing for their upcoming regional meet in early October. It's all about birds this year!

The elementary students had the opportunity to see Crede Theater on Friday morning. Our school is lucky to be on the tour and have our students see this performance. creederep.org/yaot/

Mr. Major's Woods class is in full swing this year. This project is an end table with a drawer. This will make a great present for his mother!

Wilson XC runners compete at Bennington

The Wilson Junior & Senior High School cross country team competed in Bennington on Thursday, September 19, 2019. The high school cross country team consists of Macy Hanzlick, Zach Corpus, Cara Criswell, and John Criswell. Katelin Ritchie runs for the junior high as a 7th grader. John was unable to participate this week.

During the race, temperatures reached the mid-90s with high humidity. Kudos to the team for trying their best! Next week the team will be competing in Beloit.

Our super alphabet hero gets ready to lead the kinders in singing the ABCs.

The kindergarteners celebrated Constitution Day on September 17 by making patriotic headbands.

FACS Class Tries New Things

Wilson junior and senior high students enrolled in Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) classes this semester continue to try new things. High school students are currently taking Family Living. New ingredients and recipes are the highlight of this class. Gluten free anyone?

The 7th graders take Nutrition and Wellness this year. This class covers the basics of the FACS curriculum.

Second graders read with their behavior buddies on Friday! They shared a story with them and showed their improvement in reading stamina.

Imagery in the Cemetery

Mrs. Hanzlick's sophomore English class are completing gravestone shadings to accompany their imagery poetry project this week. The students make their walk to the cemetery with smiles through the hot and windy weather!

Smells like s'mores!

Freshmen Physical Science class learned the process of isolating copper by using electrolysis. They also burned marshmallows to learn about the various forms of energy.

The 4th graders had a busy week! On Tuesday, they celebrated Constitution Day with a birthday party for the United States leading set of rules.

The rest of the week was spent in learning mode with scientific observations and learning to be responsible!

Wilson FFA Recycling Program

**What the Wilson FFA can recycle has changed! Please see the following guidelines when bringing materials from home**

1. Plastic Bottles: (Pop bottles, water bottles, etc.) Only the bottle, please remove the caps

2. General Plastics: Must have the Recycling symbol with a #2 in the middle of the triangle. No other number can be accepted anymore. Look for the number on the bottom of your plastic containers.

3. Cardboard: Remove any packing material and break down the boxes flat

4. Newspapers and Magazines: No plastic bags on them

5. Office Paper: White paper ONLY

6. Chipboard: Only boxes such as cereal boxes, pop cases, etc.

7. Aluminum Cans: Beverage cans ONLY no foil or pet food cans

8. Tin/Steel Cans: Must be clean

**Please make sure that everything that is brought to the recycling trailer is clean and dry**
