On behalf of the teachers at Wilson School, I get the pleasure to say "Thank You" to all of you parents that attended Parent-Teacher conferences last week. Sometimes parents may not realize the impact your attendance at Parent-Teacher Conferences. But, I want to reassure you, you MAKE A DIFFERENCE! To take the time and put everything else in your busy lives aside, to come hear about how your child is doing in school sends a positive signal to your child(ren) that their education is important to you! Regardless of the districts and schools that I have worked in, the spring conferences have traditionally had worse attendance than the fall conferences.
The Wilson Junior High and High School students embarked on something new and different for the spring conferences. Student-led conferences were implemented and I must say with great success. Students were given a list of what was expected to be included in their student-led conference with their parents. Each student was to create a 3-5 minute presentation that included two samples of work, long term (career goals), a resume and talk about their grades. High school students talked about job shadowing opportunities and possible college visits in the future.
The feedback from teachers and parents regarding the student-led conferences has been very positive.
Again, it is my pleasure to say "Thank You" parents for working with us to make this a better place for all students!
Have a great weekend!
