Adjustment of Deadlines in Connection with the 2025 Midterm Election: Deadline of Completion of Requirements - 16 May 2025
Questions on Courses
Are there face-to-face classes?
Kindly note that at UPOU, FICs do not conduct any face-to-face classes, as courses are fully administered online.
Are there times when we have to report in-campus?
For your courses, no, as all courses are administered online. However, if there are university or faculty-level or student-led onsite events that are held at the UPOU Headquarters at Los Baños, Laguna or at the UPOU Office at the UP Diliman Campus in Diliman, Quezon City, you may have to report in-campus.
Are synchronous online classes held?
No, as students partake in asynchronous learning. They undertake guided independent study using the learning package especially designed by the faculty-in-charge (FIC). The learning package includes course materials, course guide, activity guides, resources and other information a student needs for learning.
How do I know what courses are available per trimester?
You may refer to the Course Offering page of the UPOU OUR and the AA Freshdesk.
I have not yet completed PE and CWTS courses. What do I do?
Do note that you still need to enroll in these courses because these are required non-academic courses that are part of the AA program curriculum. Thus, you must enroll in any of these courses in addition to the academic courses that you intend to enroll in. Units of PE and CWTS courses are not included in the computation of academic load per trimester.
Can I take any PE 2 course before PE 1?
Yes. Do note that PE 1 is not a pre-requisite course for any of the PE 2 courses.
Can I take CWTS 2 even if I have not taken CWTS 1 yet?
No. Remember that CWTS 1 is the pre-requisite course for CWTS 2. Therefore, you must have already taken and passed CWTS 1 before you take CWTS 2.
I have unresponsive Faculties-in-Charge (FICs). What do I do?
Let the program know (by sending an email to aa-program-chair@upou.edu.ph) and then we’ll take it from there.
How are final examinations administered?
Final examinations for courses are administered online, either via the MyPortal course site or through the Exam Services Portal and setup of the UPOU OSA.
I have an EXT or 4.0 from the previous term. What do I do?
Apply for Completion/Removal through the Student Portal within the scheduled period for the current term. Make sure that you will be able to submit all of your lacking requirements/take your removal exam within the term. For further information on this process, kindly refer to this link.
Can I take courses from other programs?
No. Kindly note that as an AA student, you must prioritize taking and passing all of the academic and non-academic courses that are included in the curriculum, in order to ensure your graduation from the AA program.
Questions on Program Concerns
If I apply for TOC, will I become underloaded?
Not in all trimesters during your stay in the AA program, as it is possible for you to still take a regular load depending on the schedule of course offerings and academic advise of the AA Program Chair. This is why it is very important for you to regularly seek academic advising, so that you may be guided on how to make the most out of your time in the program by knowing during which trimester it is possible for you to have a regular load and when it is not.
Is there a main communication channel or space for AA students?
Yes! Kindly note that we currently have a Google Space for all currently enrolled AA students, where any questions/concerns/announcements may be sent. This space is officially linked with the AA Program Chair and Staff, where the members are updated every trimester by the AA Program Team.
On another note, there is also an AA Discord Server that is exclusively for AA students only. To become a member, you can send a message to your fellow AA students on the Google Space.
I have already earned 36 academic units in the AA program. What do I do?
This means that you are already halfway through completing the AA program. Therefore, it is best that you seek academic advising from the AA Program Chair before you register in courses, so that you may be properly guided on what courses you should enroll in the succeeding terms.
I do not plan on enrolling next term. What do I do?
Make sure that you will apply for a Leave of Absence (LOA) before the scheduled deadline, as indicated in the UPOU Academic Calendar. Otherwise, your status will be on Absence Without Leave (AWOL). To apply for LOA, kindly refer to this link.
I have no courses to enroll in the upcoming term but I must complete an EXT or remove a grade of 4.0. What do I do?
You will need to enroll in residency, the process for which you can find here. After doing so, be sure to apply for completion or removal via the Student Portal.
I am on AWOL. What do I do if I would like to enroll next term?
You will need to apply first for readmission to the AA program. For further information on this process, you may refer to this link.
I do not know what courses to take. What do I do?
Seek academic advising right away from the AA Program Chair by sending an email to aa-program-chair@upou.edu.ph.
I am a working student. Can I take less than 12 academic units in a term?
Yes, as long as you will first apply for underloading. For further information, you may refer to this link.
I am a full-time student. Can I take more than 12 academic units in a term?
Kindly note that you will only be allowed to overload if you are a graduating student with an excellent academic record. To maximize your time, make sure that you excel in the courses you are currently taking. For further information on how to apply for overloading, you may refer to this link.
Questions on Extracurricular Activities
How can we join school clubs and organizations?
For further information on how you may join student organizations at UPOU, kindly visit this link.
Do we have a group or club that helps neurodivergent individuals?
You may refer to OSA’s Student Services, specifically those under Psychosocial Support.
You may also refer to various Student Spaces spearheaded by the UPOU University Student Council, where relevant student clubs/organizations may be discovered.
Questions on Shifting
What is the process, as well as the pros and cons of shifting from AA to another Associate program at UPOU?
Should you wish to shift from AA to another Associate program, you may refer to the process found here - https://registrar.upou.edu.ph/application-for-shifting-of-program/
The pros and cons of shifting will ultimately depend on you and the program that you find more aligned with your personal interests and goals. One thing to note is that if you shift from AA to another Associate program, all of the courses that you took in AA that are also in the curriculum of the other Associate program will be credited.
Is it okay to complete AA if I'm planning to continue to BAMS or should I transfer to ASIT or AADDA?
Yes, as previous graduates of the AA program moved on to continue their studies in the BAMS program. However, the decision is ultimately up to you if you would like to complete the AA program and then move on to BAMS or if you would like to shift to ASIT or AADDA and then move on to BAMS. One thing to note if you will be shifting to ASIT or AADDA is that under either program, you will be able to take concentration courses that will help you in preparation for the BAMS program.
Questions on Graduation
Does the AA program award Latin Honors or Special Academic Awards?
No. The Associate in Arts graduate, being a graduate of a pre-baccalaureate or Associate program, is not eligible for Latin honors. However, if you are planning to move on to other UP Units (including UPOU) for your bachelor's degree, and if you are aiming to get Latin Honors in your future bachelor's degree, be mindful about your grades and standing in AA because your future BS or BA program may be taking your studies in AA into consideration. You may also refer to this link for further information.
Can we proceed to BES/BAMS after AA?
Once you are finished with and officially declared a graduate of the AA program, if you wish to continue your studies in the BES/BAMS program at UPOU, you will just have to apply for admission as a new student. For further information on the process, you may refer to this link - https://registrar.upou.edu.ph/bachelors-program/
Can we pursue a Bachelor's program at another UP unit after AA?
On the other hand, if you wish to continue your studies in a bachelor’s program at another UP constituent university or another university instead, you will need to inquire directly with their respective Office of the University Registrar (OUR) regarding the corresponding admission process.
Will it hurt my chances of being admitted to a bachelor's program if I don't enroll right after finishing AA?
No, it will not. Remember that the decision is ultimately up to you on when you prefer to apply and then continue your student journey in the bachelor’s program.
Can I apply for admission and enroll in a Bachelor's program right away after finishing AA?
No, as you will still need to wait for the UPOU OUR to officially notify you (via email) that your graduation from the AA program is approved. In addition, you will also need time to process your documents from UPOU (which the college/university of your target Bachelor's program may request from you in processing your application for admission), which will take several months to process.
What courses from my AA program can be credited to my Bachelor's program?
Should you decide to pursue the BES/BAMS program at UPOU, kindly note that the following courses you took from the AA program will be credited towards your completion of the program (which will lessen the number of years for you to complete this):
> Core GE Courses (21 units)
> Elective GE Courses (9 units)
> Common Courses (12 units)
> Mandated Course (3 units)
> NSTP Courses (6 units)
> PE Courses (8 units)
Should you decide to pursue a Bachelor's program at another UP CU or university/college outside the UP System, the decision on whether the courses you have taken in the AA program can be credited to your Bachelor's program will depend on the academic policies of your respective program and university/college.
Questions on Career Opportunities
What careers can I pursue after AA?
As a graduate of the AA program, you may pursue a career in any field (given its generalist nature) but most especially in the Arts and Humanities.
