Dr Zalina Abu Zaid is a senior lecturer and dietitian in the Department of Dietetics, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universiti Putra Malaysia. She has vast experience in dietetics, clinical nutrition, community nutrition (non-communicable disease, obesity and malnutrition), cancer, and surgical. She has strong experience with prevention and management of obesity, and expertise in the field of risk factors developing cancer. She is currently leading a research project in perioperative among surgical patients apart from that she is also looking into nutrition management of colorectal, breast, gynaecology and head and neck cancer.
Her publications addressed nutritional status, risk factors of developing cancer i.e. colorectal cancer and breast cancer and nutritional management of cancer and surgical patients. These contributed towards understanding the risk factors esp. modifiable factors (diet and lifestyle factors) in developing cancer, as well as the nutrition intervention to prevent and manage the cancer.
