Over the course of this week, you will become authors!

  • You will write, revise, and illustrate a picture book based on the life of Frederick Douglass using an online program (www.mystorybook.com).

  • In your book, you will retell the story and details of one of the events below in your own words.

    • Memories of Douglass' mother (p. 1-2)

    • The whipping of his aunt (p. 3-5)

    • Yearly allowances (p. 6-7)

    • Slave songs (p. 8-9)

    • Moving to Baltimore (chapter 5)

    • Learning to read and understanding the power of reading and writing (p. 19-20, 23-26)

Tips

  1. Book must be at least 5-8 pages.

  2. Use sensory language, dialogue, and sequence in your writing.

  3. Include a dedication page.

  4. Use color, creative symbols, and sketches so we can truly visualize your original story.
