Your U Card is your official University of Minnesota ID.
You should have your U Card on you at all times to access University Services and buildings, and identify yourself as a U of M student.
Your U Card will grant you access to:
PSEO Textbooks & Course Materials from University Bookstores (not required, other forms of ID are accepted by the Bookstore Scholarship Desk)
University Building Access (during hours of operation)
Public Transit - your U card is also a Universal transit pass (purchase required)
Dining Dollars (purchase required)
U of M Rec Centers (if you purchased a membership or have a class there)
Upload a photo to request your U Card. Click the button below and follow the instructions on the U Card website to upload your photo. Your photo must meet the requirements to be approved. If your photo is not approved, you will be asked to upload a new one before your U Card can be created.
If you do not request your U Card, you may instead go to the U Card Office and have your photo taken and U Card created there. Plan extra time for your visit if you choose this option. Be sure to bring the required forms of ID (see below).
Bring your ID
During the summer after being admitted to PSEO, you may use your high school photo ID, driver's license, or 2-3 Secondary IDs from the U Card Office's approved list to pick up your first U Card. Ideally, the ID would be from their approved Primary ID list.
You must present the required approved forms of ID to pick up your U Card.
Not coming to campus?
The U Card Office will hold your U Card for 5 years; you can pick up your U Card if you ever need to access services on campus.
Visit the Replacement U Card page for information on lost U Cards, or replacement cards (including for legal name changes).
If you attend the U of M Twin Cities for your undergraduate education after PSEO, you will use the same U Card.
You are eligible for a free replacement U Card every 5 years.
