Common subjects are ACCT, BA, and ECON.
Reminder: Always check with your high school counselor to see which PSEO courses your high school will accept for each graduation requirement. (4 college credits is equivalent to one year of high school instruction in a subject area.)
Here are the common first-year courses that, if seats are available, may be open to PSEO students:
Economics (4 credits):
ECON 1101 or APEC 1101: Intro to Microeconomics - These courses are equivalent to one another, but ECON 1101 is more popular for PSEO students because it meets on the Minneapolis West Bank campus while APEC 1101 meets in St. Paul.
ECON 1102: Intro to Macroeconomics - This has a prerequisite of microeconomics.
ECON 1165: Business Economics - [or take ECON 1101 or APEC 1101 as alternatives; this course is reserved for Carlson School students until the Friday before the start of the semester. If sections are open at that time, PSEO students can register for them.]
Courses where PSEO students can sign up for sections reserved for "non-Carlson" students or request permission to join Carlson-only sections:
ACCT 2051: Intro to Financial Reporting (4 credits)
BA 2051: Modeling Business Scenarios in Excel (2 credits)
BA 2551: Business Statistics in R (4 credits) - Can consider STAT 3011 or STAT 3021 as alternatives.
Courses only sometimes open for PSEO, especially for graduating PSEO seniors who are admitted to Carlson for the following year:
BA 2005: Business Ethics, Corporate Responsibility & Sustainability (3 credits)
BA 2062: Impact Lab Problem Solving (2 credits)
Carlson School of Management students eventually take a series of courses called the Impact Core (including courses like FINA 3001, ACCT 3001, and MKTG 3001 as examples). PSEO students should not usually take these courses, even if you've met the prerequisites. They're intended to be taken together rather than piecemeal.
However, if you have completed ACCT 2051, BA 2051, BA 2551, and economics (ECON 1165, 1101, or APEC 1101, you can consider taking 1-2 of the following:
Either (but not both) of the following:
ACCT 3001: Strategic Management Accounting
HRIR 3021 Human Capital Management"
IDSC 3001: Information Systems & Digital Transformation
The following courses are fully closed to PSEO students:
BA 1011: Leading Self & Teams
BA 1021: Design Your Life
BA 2021: Design Your Career
