Carlson School Students Introduce Business to Teens

In BA 1011: Leading Self and Teams, students were challenged to complete a project that would make a positive impact on the world. Conner Xiong ‘26 BSB, Jenny Lin ‘26 BSB, Isha Sasi ‘26 BSB, James Yousef ‘26 BSB, and Jessie Lara Pliego ‘26 BSB went above and beyond. They developed a presentation and traveled to two schools around the metro, giving a total of ten presentations to encourage middle and high school students to consider college, business, and the Carlson School. Strategic Management Develops Students' Analytical Toolkit

In MGMT 3004: Strategic Management, competitive analysis is hands-on. Students develop their problem-solving skills as they navigate various frameworks of analytic thinking, utilizing these frameworks to identify companies’ competitive strategies, industry position, resources, and capabilities. Race, Power, and Justice in Business examines social inequities

One of the first things students do in BA 3001: Race, Power, and Justice in Business is take a test. They are asked to quickly react to various pairings of labels of “good” or “bad” with the faces of European-Americans and African-Americans. At the end of the test, the system gives students an unconscious bias score based on their reaction times to various pairings. Read more.

Paving the way for PSEO

Zeke Jackson ‘23 BSB was featured in the Washington Post about his experiences and advocacy with the PSEO (Post-Secondary Enrollment Options) program, a dual enrollment program that allows 10th-12th grade students to save time and money by attending college for free while simultaneously fulfilling their high school graduation requirements. Work Before Reward: Grant Allows Student to Pursue Dream Internship

Erick Kriewaldt ‘22 BSB received the Unpaid Internship Grant from the Carlson School of Management this past summer. This grant allowed him to participate in an internship with A3 Athletics that otherwise would have been unpaid. Read more.

Leadership on Two Fronts

At first glance, a business education and a military career may not seem to have much in common. For Max Nelson BSB ’23 and Garret Hintze BSB ’23, both members of the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps, the two experiences have provided them with a skill set that is greater than the sum of its parts.
