Connecting the world with GLOBE

Every semester, students from across the world travel to the United States to attend the Carlson School of Management. Living abroad can be daunting, as all Carlson School students experience through their International Experience. However, international students at the Carlson School are eased into their new home with GLOBE.

GLOBE is a student group that supports international exchange students and their transition to the Carlson School. Each international student is paired with a GLOBE Buddy, a Carlson School student who organizes their pick-up from the airport and participates in a variety of events and activities to help international students feel at home, especially during Welcome Week. In the past, this has included scavenger hunts, ice skating, sports games, and cultural events.

“When you go abroad, it is always nice to have a familiar face,” said Miya Molina ‘24 BSB, Co-President of GLOBE. “It’s also a great way to meet new people from the country you plan to study in. I’m planning to go to Japan, so now when I go there I can see some people that I know already.”

GLOBE is constantly changing, with new international exchange students coming each semester. Therefore, Buddies have the opportunity to meet several students from abroad.

“My favorite part of GLOBE is meeting other students,” said Elise De Bruyn, a senior and exchange student from the Netherlands. “It is nice to have events organized by a third party because we all came here without knowing the city. My Buddy showed me her favorite parts of the city, and helped me with things like a phone plan.”

GLOBE offers a welcoming community for international students, and encourages and uplifts diverse perspectives.

“GLOBE is such a fun club to participate in. It’s a great way to meet a lot of new people and make a great group of friends from across the world,” said Molina.

Want to get involved with GLOBE in the fall? Applications for the executive board are open until April 9. Applications for the Buddy program are open until April 21, but will be accepted on a rolling basis throughout the summer.
