In order to receive credit for business coursework taken abroad, students must work with their academic advisor to have courses reviewed and approved prior to their departure.
Students need to review the class offerings for their intended term abroad to confirm availability. For most recent course listings, contact the appropriate on-campus study abroad office. Enrollment in any study abroad course isn’t a guarantee, including but not limited to, course availability, enrollment space, and adhering to prerequisites at the school or program where the course is offered.
Students should review the major/minor page for curriculum details for their major/minor as well as their APAS to review their graduation requirements.
These instructions are for anyone who needs to submit a business course evaluation. This is most often for Carlson School undergraduate students but non-Carlson students may be directed to use this form.
Use the Carlson School Study Abroad Business Course Equivalencies Database, a database of evaluated business coursework from approved semester and summer study abroad programs hosted by the Carlson Global Institute (CGI) and Learning Abroad Center (LAC).
Expiration dates and course evaluation details can be found by clicking into each individual course. Business course evaluations are active for two years and then expire and must be reviewed by the faculty department again.
If a course is approved at the time a confirmed student is completing academic planning for their time abroad, the course will transfer as an approved course even if it expires while the student is abroad.
Use the database to submit courses for evaluation.
For a course that has not been previously evaluated, use the “New Evaluation” button.
For an expired course already in the database, click into the “expired” course and find the “Submit Re-evaluation” button. When students are submitting a re-evaluation for an expired course, they must make sure it is the exact course that is previously listed in the database.
It is the student’s responsibility to make sure the course title and number(s) match the syllabus exactly. Students will need the course syllabus as well as the Grade & Credit Conversion sheet for the selected program. That sheet is on your program webpage.
Courses may not transfer at the same number of credits as listed on the syllabus. The Carlson School has clear policies on how credits count towards your degree progress. Talk to your academic advisor.
Coursework accepted in transfer or taken abroad may be approved to fulfill major requirements. However, for each major, a minimum number of credits must be completed at the Carlson School of Management. Talk to your academic advisor to ensure you are on track.
Typically, you will receive a response in 2-3 weeks. The course will be reviewed by your academic advisor and the faculty department.
Save your progress! If you are not able to finish this form in one sitting, you may return within 7 days. You will be logged out after 30 minutes of inactivity.
Do not use your browser’s back or forward buttons. Only use the navigation buttons at the bottom of each page of the form. Using browser buttons may cause data to be lost and the form to error.

The approval process for non-business courses does not use this database. Follow the appropriate process depending on the kind of course you are taking.
Liberal Education Coursework:
Check the Learning Abroad Center's U-Credit course database to locate courses which have been previously approved to meet liberal education requirements, or to submit a course for approval. This process is the same for liberal education courses taken on CGI programs.

Elective Coursework
