What is happening with commencement?
2024 Undergraduate Commencement ceremonies will be returning to the college-specific format. Carlson's Spring 2024 Undergraduate Commencement ceremony will be held on Monday, May 13th at 1 p.m. at 3M Arena at Mariucci.
Graduates will receive a formal invitation in March, sent to their UMN email.
I graduated in Fall 2023. Can I attend commencement in the spring?
Yes! All Fall 2023 graduates will automatically be invited to the 2024 commencement ceremony. A formal invitation will be sent electronically in the spring to the UMN email addresses of all Fall 2023, Spring 2024, Summer 2024 and Fall 2024 grads.
I will graduate in Summer 2024 or Fall 2024, but would like to attend the 2024 commencement ceremony. Can I attend commencement this spring?
Yes! All students expected to graduate in either Summer 2024 or Fall 2024 will automatically be invited to the 2024 commencement ceremony. A formal invitation will be sent electronically to the UMN email addresses of all Fall 2023, Spring 2024, Summer 2024 and Fall 2024 grads.
Fall 2024 graduates can opt into attending the Spring 2024 commencement ceremony, or attend the Spring 2025 commencement ceremony. If you are graduating in Fall 2024 and would like to attend the Spring 2024 ceremony, please RSVP by April 15 so that we can confirm your attendance and add you to the ceremony program.
If you are graduating in Fall 2024 and would like to attend the Spring 2025 commencement ceremony instead, just ignore the 2024 commencement invitation and you will automatically be invited to next year's ceremony.
Is there a deadline to RSVP?
Yes. For Fall 2024 graduates, the deadline is April 15 in order to ensure that your name is in the ceremony program. For Fall 2023, Spring 2024 and Summer 2024 graduates, the deadline will be April 20.
How many guests can I have, and do they need tickets?
There is no limit on the number of guests who may attend Commencement. Tickets are not required.
How do I apply for graduation?
When you have completed (including current registration) 75% or more of the credits applicable toward your degree, you will be automatically scheduled to graduate. You can verify your expected graduation term through your APAS report.

Will I graduate with special distinctions or honors? How will I know that?
Students who meet a specific GPA or Honors Program threshold may receive special recognition. If, after all grades are posted, you have a minimum GPA of 3.75, you'll receive the "distinction" recognition. If your GPA is 3.9 or higher, you'll receive "high distinction" recognition.
When will I get my diploma certificate?
Your diploma will be mailed to you 6-8 weeks after graduation. It is up to you to make sure your diploma is mailed to the correct address. Your diploma will be mailed to the diploma address that appears in MyU: My Info. Find more information about your diploma at One Stop.
