You can order your cap and gown and other graduation items at Grad Fest (March 19 and 20) or from the UMN Bookstore. Contact the Bookstore with questions.
While you're registering for Commencement, don't forget to register for the Grad Celebration! The Grad Celebration is the day BEFORE Graduation and is a SEPARATE event from Commencement at Mariucci Arena on Monday, May 19th. This event is open to only Carlson School's Undergraduate students who are graduating in Fall 2024, Spring 2025 or Fall 2025, their families, and friends.

What is happening with Carlson's commencement this year?
The 2025 Carlson Undergraduate Commencement ceremony will occur on Monday, May 19, 2025 at 3M Arena at Mariucci. Graduates received a formal invitation and further details about the ceremony on March 25, sent to their UMN email.
I graduated in Fall 2024. Can I attend commencement in the spring?
Yes! All Fall 2024 graduates will automatically be invited to the 2025 commencement ceremony. A formal invitation will be sent electronically in the spring to the UMN email addresses of all Fall 2024, Spring 2025, Summer 2025 and Fall 2025 grads.
I will graduate in Summer 2025 or Fall 2025, but would like to attend the 2025 commencement ceremony. Can I attend commencement this spring?
Yes! All students expected to graduate in either Summer 2025 or Fall 2025 will automatically be invited to the 2025 commencement ceremony. A formal invitation will be sent electronically to the UMN email addresses of all Fall 2024, Spring 2025, Summer 2025 and Fall 2025 grads.
Fall 2025 graduates can opt into attending the Spring 2025 commencement ceremony, or attend the Spring 2026 commencement ceremony. If you are graduating in Fall 2025 and would like to attend the Spring 2025 ceremony, please RSVP by April 15 so that we can confirm your attendance and add you to the ceremony program.
If you are graduating in Fall 2025 and would like to attend the Spring 2026 commencement ceremony instead, just ignore the 2025 commencement invitation and you will automatically be invited to next year's ceremony.
Is there a deadline to RSVP?
Yes. The deadline is April 21.
How many guests can I have, and do they need tickets?
There is no limit on the number of guests who may attend Commencement. Tickets are not required.
How do I apply for graduation?
When you have completed (including current registration) 75% or more of the credits applicable toward your degree, you will be automatically scheduled to graduate. You can verify your expected graduation term through your APAS report.
If you have further questions, please contact your academic advisor.
Will I graduate with special distinctions or honors? How will I know that?
Students who meet a specific GPA or Honors Program threshold may receive special recognition. If, after all grades are posted, you have a minimum GPA of 3.75, you'll receive the "distinction" recognition. If your GPA is 3.9 or higher, you'll receive "high distinction" recognition.
When will I get my diploma certificate?
Your diploma will be mailed to you 6-8 weeks after graduation. It is up to you to make sure your diploma is mailed to the correct address. Your diploma will be mailed to the diploma address that appears in MyU: My Info. Find more information about your diploma at One Stop.
