Graduation

The 2027 Carlson Undergraduate Commencement ceremony will occur on Monday, May 17, 2027 at 3M Arena at Mariucci. Graduates can expect to receive a formal invitation and further details about the ceremony in March, sent to their UMN email.

Yes! All Fall 2026 graduates will automatically be invited to the 2027 commencement ceremony. A formal invitation will be sent electronically in the spring to the UMN email addresses of all Fall 2026, Spring 2027, Summer 2027 and Fall 2027 grads.

Yes! All students expected to graduate in either Summer 2027 or Fall 2027 will automatically be invited to the 2026 commencement ceremony. A formal invitation will be sent electronically to the UMN email addresses of all Fall 2026, Spring 2027, Summer 2027 and Fall 2027 grads. 

Fall 2027 graduates can opt into attending the Spring 2027 commencement ceremony, or opt out and attend the Spring 2028 commencement ceremony. If you are graduating in Fall 2027 and would like to attend the Spring 2027 ceremony, please RSVP by April 15 so that we can confirm your attendance and add you to the ceremony program. 

If you are graduating in Fall 2027 and would like to attend the Spring 2028 commencement ceremony instead, please "opt out" of the 2027 ceremony during the registration process. This will ensure that you are removed from future communication for the 2027 ceremony.

When you have completed (including current registration) 75% or more of the credits applicable toward your degree, you will be automatically scheduled to graduate. You can verify your expected graduation term through your APAS report.

Yes. The deadline is April 20.

Ticketing is required at commencement. All guests over the age of 2 need a ticket to enter the arena. Graduates can bring a maximum of eight (8) guests. Guests will not be assigned seats; seating is general admission.

Students who meet a specific GPA or Honors Program threshold may receive special recognition. If, after all grades are posted, you have a minimum GPA of 3.750, you'll receive the "distinction" recognition. If your GPA is 3.900 or higher, you'll receive "high distinction" recognition. 

Graduates who qualify for Distinction or High Distinction at the time of commencement will be awarded honor cords to wear at commencement. More information regarding honor cords will come in April.

The undergraduate degree confer dates are as follows: 

Summer 2026: June 5, 2026 (May Session) OR August 14, 2026

Fall 2026: December 23, 2026

Spring 2027: May 12, 2027

Summer 2027: June 4, 2027 (May Session) OR August 13, 2026

Your diploma will be mailed to you 6-8 weeks after graduation. It is up to you to make sure your diploma is mailed to the correct address. Your diploma will be mailed to the diploma address that appears in MyU: My Info. Find more information about your diploma at One Stop.
