Closely review the information on this page for help with your registration questions. If you are still experiencing an issue, or need a permission number, fill out the help form. Note that your registration time must be open in order for us to process a request.
You may need a permission number if:
You have not completed course prerequisites. You can find prerequisites in the “Requirements” portion of Schedule Builder.
Your completed prerequisites are transfer courses or from another University of Minnesota campus (you may still encounter an error message).
You wish to register for a closed class or a section with reserved seating.
You are registering during a time period when permission is mandatory.
Submit a request through the Carlson Registration Help Form. If you do not meet the course prerequisites, you must secure the instructor's approval before submitting the form. Documentation of the instructor’s approval is required in order to receive a permission number.
Once you have a permission number, follow the step-by-step instructions on the One Stop class permission page.
Note: If you have a class time conflict, you must submit the Class Time Conflict Approval form on One Stop's website.
If you are interested in a class that is full, you can join a waitlist - follow the waitlist instructions. Enrollment from a waitlist is not guaranteed. Enroll in an open section if one is available, and if you wish, add yourself to a waitlist for a desired section using Future Swap. Instructions are available on the One Stop swap page.
Even if the waitlist is long, you should still add yourself. While enrollment is not guaranteed, waitlist numbers help us assess the need for additional course sections. You need to have a backup plan in the event you cannot get enrolled off of the waitlist.
Consult your academic advisor if you have questions.
If a course is closed, enrolling requires both instructor approval and classroom capacity. You should add yourself to the waitlist first, and then contact the instructor. Do not assume you will be enrolled - you should begin developing backup options that will keep you on track.
We will not jump the waitlist unless there is a valid reason. We will also need to adhere to fire code restrictions. If a closed course is required for timely graduation, contact your academic advisor. They will work with the college Registrar to assist you.
Visit the I-Core registration help page.
The Carlson Undergraduate Program cannot assist with registration for courses outside of our college. Contact the department that offers the course for assistance. Contact information can typically be found by looking up the course in the University catalog or searching online, then navigating to the department's main page.
If you want to register for a non-Carlson section of a Carlson course contact your academic advisor. Share the non-Carlson course and section details, along with a clear justification for why you need to take that specific section.
