The Why

The Statewide Teammate ID Badge Initiative is about making our campuses safer and helping teammates be easily recognized across TSTC.
Beginning September 1, 2026, all teammates will visibly wear their TSTC-issued identification badge while working. Wearing an identification badge helps students, visitors, and coworkers easily recognize TSTC teammates and fosters a welcoming, professional environment. It also enhances campus safety by making it easier to identify individuals who are authorized to be in our buildings and workspaces.
As part of this initiative teammates who have not updated their photo in the last two years will receive a new badge with a current photo. This gives everyone a professional and consistent teammate ID across the college.
This is more than a new badge. It is one more step toward creating a safer workplace, a stronger TSTC community and a consistent experience for teammates at every campus.

The Statewide Employee ID Badge Initiative creates a consistent employee identification standard across all TSTC locations. Employee ID badges help improve campus safety by making it easier for students, visitors, and employees to identify TSTC employees.

Beginning September 1, 2026 all employees are expected to wear their TSTC employee ID badge while working. The badge will become part of the required employee uniform.

Who needs a new employee ID badge?
Employees who have not updated their photo within the last two years are expected to receive a new badge. All employees are welcome to update their photo if they would like a new badge.
How do I get my photo taken?
How do I get my photo taken?
You have three options:
Attend your campus Employee ID Badge photo event.
Reply to the project email to receive instructions for submitting a photo with your smartphone.
Visit your Student Accounting Office to have your photo taken.

Most photo appointments take about five minutes.

Appointments are encouraged to help reduce wait times. If appointment times are full you are welcome to walk in during the event.

Wear clothing that is appropriate for work. Solid colors photograph best. Prescription glasses are welcome. There is no need to dress differently than you normally would for work.

If you cannot attend your campus event you can submit a smartphone photo to employebadgetproject@tstc.edu or visit your Student Accounting Office to have your photo taken.

Contact the Employee ID Badge Project Team for instructions on how to submit your photo to employeebadgeproject@tstc.edu and receive your badge.

Yes. Beginning September 1 2026 employees are expected to wear their employee ID badge while working unless an approved alternative is required for safety or job duties.
What if I work in an area where wearing a badge around my neck is not safe?
What if I work in an area where wearing a badge around my neck is not safe?
Employee safety comes first. If a traditional lanyard creates a safety concern alternative badge attachments such as belt clips, armbands or other approved options may be used. Speak with your manager if you need an alternative.
Can I decorate my badge or lanyard?

Employee ID badges should remain clearly visible and professional. Sticker covers or other items that block or alter the badge should not be added.
Can I use my preferred name on my badge?
Can I use my preferred name on my badge?
Yes. If you have an approved preferred name set up in Workday, it can be used on your employee ID badge. Reach out to Human Resources if you need support in updating your preferred name.

If your legal name, preferred name or employment information changes please work with Human Resources to update your records. Once the change has been processed a new badge can be requested if needed.

Notify your manager and contact Student Accounting as soon as possible so a replacement badge can be issued.

Yes. Replacement employee ID badges are $10 if they are lost, damaged or need to be replaced due to employee responsibility.
There is no charge when a badge is replaced because of normal wear, a college required update or a change initiated by TSTC.

Employee ID badges remain the property of Texas State Technical College and must be returned when employment ends.

After the initial rollout employees will update their employee photo every five years unless a new badge is needed sooner because of a name change, significant change in appearance or another business need.

Yes. Employee ID badges are part of the onboarding process for all new employees.
Can I use my old employee ID badge?
Can I use my old employee ID badge?
No. Once you receive your new employee ID badge you should begin using it. Any previous badge should be returned or destroyed according to college guidance.

Will my employee ID badge be used to track my location?
No. The employee ID badge is used for employee identification and access to authorized areas. It does not track your location.
