Acoustics

Acoustic relates to the noise in the classroom and teachers need to be mindful of this in the classroom and the impact it can have an attention and listening. There are some things that can't be helped but possiblyminimised and there are small things that we can do to improve the listening environment.

Strategies to support the sound levels in the classroom:

  • consider the noises outside of the classroom - close the windows or the door for listening tasks

  • consider what is going on in school and tailor your listening tasks to fit in with the quieter times

  • consider your proximity to the students

  • develop a quite space

  • allow students to wear headphones

  • play low level calming music

  • consider sitting students who need quiet with others who also need quiet

  • consider the noise levels the impact they may have on learning and how they are managed

  • use of rubber bottoms/felt pads on chairs

  • use of carpets and rugs
