Understanding

In order to understand what is being said we have to rely on listening skills, memory, motivation, clues from nonverbal communication (NVC), vocabulary knowledge, the amount of information given, an understanding of the grammar used, the complexity of the language, and the use of nonliteral language. As well as our knowledge of the world, shared experiences, an understanding that other people have different thoughts and ideas to our own and to interpret information given based on all of that.
