3rd Grade Language Arts
Students in third grade will study and master the Language Arts concepts of oral expression and listening, reading for all purposes, writing and composition, and research inquiry and design. During reading instruction third grade students are provided direct, explicit and systematic instruction in phonological and phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency and comprehension in order to read and comprehend grade level literary and informational text. During writing instruction students will use the writing process while writing to a variety of genres and audiences to create proficient writing. Students will also gain and master grammar and mechanics skills. These concepts and associated skills are aligned with the Colorado Academic Standards for Language Arts and Common Core College and Career Readiness in Reading, Writing Speaking, Listening & Language.
