A mathematics pathway for students who wish to extend their knowledge of year 10 maths to senior mathematics, including VCE 1/2 Mathematical Methods and IB Mathematics.
Fluency in mathematical terminology, application of formulas/principles to real-life scenarios, consistency in routine procedures, identifying an appropriate approach to problem-solving tasks, use of technology (mostly CAS) for solving problems visually and algebraically
Exponentials and Logarithms: Use of exponent laws to simplify expressions, solve equations, and modelling problems relating to growth and decay.
Linear and quadratics: Simplify expressions and solve equations using a combination of rearrangement and factorisation.
Probability and counting methods: Explore the efficiency of various counting methods, including the use of factorials, and determining the probability of an event.
Trigonometry and further trigonometry: Using sine, cosine, and tangent functions as a tool for problem-solving, and an introduction to the unit circle as a tool to evaluate trigonometric values.
Gallery of graphs and transformations: An introduction to function notation and miscellaneous graph shapes, such as the hyperbola and truncus.
Pseudocode: Implementation of algorithms to devise a solution.
