Symbolic Self Portrait

Objective:

Create a mixed media drawing of yourself that symbolically represents something about your personality.

Big Idea:

All artists create portraits of themselves for technical practice and sometimes to unveil an aspect of their personality or life. By adding a visual metaphor or something symbolic, you are expressing and revealing a little piece about yourself.

Essential Questions:

What are the basic facial proportions?

How do artists use symbolism and metaphor in their work?

How does emotion and expression effect an artwork?

How does an artist create a mood?

What does it mean for an artwork to be ambiguous?
