Project Description:
Our project, UniversO, aims to tackle the worldwide blood shortage issue by using enzymes to convert ABO blood types to the universal donor blood type O.
Our project targets two Sustainable Development Goals: Goal #3: Good Health and Well Being, and Goal #4: Quality Education. More specifically, the goals we would like to emphasize are sub-goals 3.4 and 4.5.
Task 1 (3.4): Through interviewing those who regularly receive blood transfusions, we can better understand the importance of transfusions and its role in preventing premature mortality.
Task 2 (4.5): By sending out our educational website containing packets about synthetic biology to persons with disabilities, indigenous peoples and children in vulnerable situations, we are directly tackling SDG 4.5 by increasing access to education to those groups.
