Turning Food Waste into Degradable PLA Bioplastic Using Engineered E.coli

Project Description:

Macau, being one of the cities of gastronomy, its food waste has been turning into an urgent issue. With current solutions being insufficient and boasting harmful effects on both the people and precious urban spaces of Macau, the following video will explain how we are planning to tackle this problem with a sustainable approach. Together, with Geni, our mascot, we will elaborate on how we can provide a reuse opportunity for food waste by turning it into biodegradable plastic.

Our project targets one Sustainable Development Goal: Goal #12: Responsible Consumption and Production. More specifically, the goals we would like to emphasize are sub-goals 12.5 and 12.8.


Task 1 (12.5 + 12.8):

12.5 Through the challenge on instagram, we can arouse people to be aware of the food waste problem, thus reducing food waste generation by engaging in the challenge.

12.8: Through the challenge on instagram, we can promote concepts of environmental protection and raising social awareness of food waste problem and the importance of sustainable development
