Rapid Test System for Equine Herpesvirus Detection

Project Description:

Equine herpes viruses are the most dangerous viruses for horses. They lead to abortions and nervous system disorders. There are a lot of problems with EHV diagnosis in Russia. Therefore we decided to create our mobile test system for the rapid diagnosis of EHV using CRISPR/Cas13.

The method is based on the property of beta-lactamase subunits to combine into a whole functional protein when the halves physically approach. Two fusion proteins consisting of a Cas13 and each of the two beta-lactamase subunits with guide RNA make the target nucleic acid detection possible

Our project targets one Sustainable Development Goal: Goal #3: Good Health and Well Being. More specifically, the goals we would like to emphasize are sub-goals 3.C and 3.B.

Task 1 (3.B): Make a list of three vaccines that are needed in developing countries, but are not provided in necessary amounts or are not developed at all

Task 2 (3.C): Make a suggestion how to make vaccine transportation more affordable (it can be a small one or a suggestion to one specific country)
