Un-Glazed Tile
Fired & Glazed Tile
Artist Statement:
The assignment was to create a pattern inspired by nature themes then carve it on a semi-hard glazed tile of clay. The subject of my tile was a fish, I like the way fishes scales create a pattern on there own. The materials that I used were a tile of clay and carving tools.
Some elements I used were Shape and Value. Some principles of design I used were Contrast and Pattern. I think my project evolved by the difference in deepness and how I carved out the scales. I didn't really change anything from the beginning to the project.
There was no meaning behind this project. The thing that I am most proud of is the shape of the fish and the division of black and white. I struggled on this project is when I started carving the outline of the fish the tile was to little and there wasn't enough space for the tail. I over came this struggle by just making the tail smaller than it was supposed to be. If I could revise my work I might have added some white areas outside of the fish to make it look brighter.
