Negative Space Drawing

Artist Statement:

The assignment was to trace or draw the space around an object and then to fill it in with a pattern. The materials I used to create both of these pieces was colored pencils and a thin black sharpie. The materials I used were a pencil, thin black sharpie, and colored pencils.

Some elements I used in my negative space drawing are Color, Line and Space. Some principles I used in my negative space drawings are Pattern and Unity. Some thing that I had to revise was the way I was shading the colored pencils.

I had no true meaning behind either of these pieces of art. I'm most proud of the pattern and color that I used in my leaf drawing and proud of using more than just one pattern in my stool drawing. I think I struggled most with keeping the space mostly even. I don't think I need to work on anything in my artwork.
