Stars & Stripes
"Forth of July Pride" (7in x 9.8in)
Artist Statement:
The idea behind this piece is 4th of July, when almost everyone comes together in different groups to celebrate freedom and community. The project was to use the stars, stripes, red, white and blue off of the American flag; I chose to make this fourth of July themed because the stripes on the flags reminded me of fireworks.
I made this piece by first painting the background blue, I then painted the fireworks by using a circle template. I finished off by sketching the hill and stars. The materials I used were acrylic paint, painters tape and a circle template.
A process I used to make this piece is looking at different type of fireworks and just experimented with how to paint and draw the fireworks. I think that my project evolved throughout the process of painting fireworks. I learned how to control my hand better and what brush is better for fireworks. I think my next step could be adding a silhouette of a person on the hill.
