scriffito tile

The goal of this project was to make a carving into sgraffito clay. the subject of my creation was semi-random semi like a river with the banks falling into the river. I made this product by using a carving tool to remake the design that I made on the light graph paper one I got the design on and let it dry I chatted with Nathan Begin and put the green glaze onto it before it would be fired in the kiln.

The elements I used were Color for where the carved parts would be turned green, line to show my designs, space so I could use negative space to complete the image without carving it all out. and texture to show the banks of the river. The principles I used were Balance, keeping the carved space and the not carved space even, Movement, In the river to show the water flowing downstream, and Unity to make the piece really take form and become what I wanted it to become. My project evolved starting from a piece of blank sgraffito to a river running wild across the brick.

My project doesn't have a story but relates to my life in a very simple way which is I want to roam free just like a river. I'm definitely Most proud of how I managed to keep it so simple yet very complex I didn't struggle at all and would say the hardest part was finding the right tool to scratch. I think this is one of the two best things I made this year.
