Negative Space Drawings

Our first task was to bring leaves in from outside outlined them and make some interesting design with the negative space. then there were chairs setup we were supposed to to make 3 quick quick thumbnail drawings only using the negative space once we completed them we chose our favorite of the 3 and put it on big paper for our final project than made an interesting design in the negative space. In my artwork i put the negative space of the chairs on the right then made the negative space on the left and around the right negative space i made a colorful checkerboard type pattern. for the leaf drawing i outlined the negative space with red or green than in between the outlines i put some orange, red and yellow. both works of art were made looking at the negative space of objects and drawing it with sharpie than doing a cool colorful designs with colored pencil in the background.

In these pieces of art i used the elements color, shape, line and form and for the principles i usd pattern and balance. My projects evolved form just a bordered paper with chair/leave looking outlines on them to chair/leaf looking outlines with interesting patterns occupying the negative space of the pieces.

There isn't much meaning behind this artwork besides it using negative space to make a cool piece of artwork. The chair project doesn't really relate to my life but the leaf one does because i like fall and i think how the leaves change color and fly to the ground off the trees is really cool. In my chair project i am most proud of my green boxes because the fade stays fairly consistent and for my leaf project i am very pleased with how the outlines came out. With the chair project i struggled with not looking/drawing the chairs but the negative space i overcame this by looking/drawing the shapes in between like i was drawing a window in between the chairs and in the leaf drawing i struggled with shading the main negative space but i overcame this by persevering and trying my hardest. i think in the leaf drawing it could be better if i hadn't messed up on the top part of negative space using the wrong color And for the chair drawing i wish i could have made the checkered designs shading smoother.
