we were told to choose a photo that we took and graph than expanded the graph to a peice of big paper than copied each square so they looked the same with pencil than erased the boxes once all the boxes were erased we were told to shade the darkest points and erased the highlights until we decide we are done. In the picture I chose there's my friend Keigans Crocs resting on a bus seat on the way to a soccer game once. I started by using Pencil for graphing the boxes and the square by square outlines than moved on to charcoal for shading than finished using an eraser to show highlights and yellow charcoal to give it a Keigan Croc essence.
When making this piece I used every element of art except for shape because if I used shapes it wouldn't be as realistic, I used color to show the yellow on the crocs, Value was used to give certain things a real vibe, I used lines to show shadows and outline made by the shadows, using space for the shadows and going darker and lighter to make things look like they had real shadows, Obviously I used textures for this drawing otherwise things like the bus seat, Keigans socks and pants would just be shaded. Now on to the principles I used balances so not everything was just black or white and have some middle colors to keep the shading balanced. To add some contrast to my piece I added Some white and yellow charcoal and light and dark contrasting shades, when I added the yellow it was intended to bring emphasis to the crocs and I think that's exactly what it did, and the last couple of principle didn't really show up to much in the piece pattern and rhythm because this is a very real drawing from a picture with no movement and not actual patterns , there wasn't much unity because it was an un-unified picture taken as a joke that I found in my camera roll when I was looking for a picture. I started with just a plain black and white background than decide to add some color to evolve my drawing and make my drawing that much better.
My drawing has no meaning behind it but it shows things I like the color yellow and crocs are a big fashion statement. this piece of artwork relates to my life because it is a picture of one of my friend's crocs he's been rocking yellow crocs since 6th grade so his crocs came before big groups of people started to wear them. the feature I'm most proud of was the bottom foot and leg because I think it looks very realistic compared to the rest of my drawing. I struggled on the shading and shadows of the crocs but I was able to overcome this by asking the teacher for help listening and doing my best to show exactly what t5he crocs looked like with the shadows I think two things in my drawing could be stronger the top leg and croc I think I just needed more time to work on it and the bus seat I think it would have come out better if I used the charcoal and had followed exactly what it looked like without improvising.
