Alexa are you listening

I’m calling this project, "Alexa are listening" because there were speculations that the government was listening through theses voice activated devices. The subject is a portrait showing a father and song talking while a government man is shown holding an Alexa and listening through it.

I chose to create this specific work because when searching for ideas I saw a canadian website talking about how they thought the government was listening through alexa which was a topic the U.S had a bit earlier than the idea of showing the government listening just popped into my head.

For materials, I used a combination of marker for the majority of the background, ink pen for the outlines and colored pencil for the clothing skin and hair. While creating this work, I paid close attention to color by using vibrant colors to make my piece pop. I wanted my artwork to look cartoon ish to keep it still playful enough to seem like just a joke and I did that by using vibrant colors and black outlined figures. To add interest to my composition, I used colors that arent the same shades to add contrast. I like the way the two scenarios form into one using the alexa and I am proud of how the overall piece came out. However, I struggled with showing that the two scenarios are in realtime and how the government was listening. If I created another work like this I may spend more time working on making it easier to understand. My work shows that I learned how to better shade using a marker.
