The assignment on hand was to draw each hand while only looking at your hand and not the paper. This is called blind contour drawing. The purpose of blind contour drawing is to train your eye and hand to work together. It is an exercise in seeing. Then we did the same with our head and a mirror then turn it into a drawing using oil pastels, watercolors, markers or colored pencils. This is a drawing with a hand where a head should with his head in the air and a landscape background. The original blind contour drawing was made with sharpie then extended with oil pastels.
I used Color, Shape, Line and Space to create unified piece then used pastel colors to create balance using the solid green base to make the jester outfit pop off the page. Originally, I was gonna make a simple green grass background but I knew it needed more so I added a waterfall to add some balance to my piece.
My creation shows a court jester in a utopia trying to make the king laugh the problem is the king has a dark twisted sense of humor so the jester sticks his hand through his body and juggles his head. It doesn't really relate to my life but when i looked at the blind contour drawings I saw a jester's neck piece so I built off that. I am surprisingly satisfied with how the waterfall came out. I struggled with the dark twisted part of the drawing more specifically the blood I just couldn't get the right color but eventually I mixed red and black to make the bloody color mess around the neck/hand area. I think if I were to revise the piece I would work more on the shading around the sky and the grass.
