Abstract Village
15"x 8.75"
The main idea for this was to create something abstract out of the small glimpse of my birkenstock. I chose to make it a village because the way the buckle created houses reminded me of my own block where I live so I decided to base it off of that.
This work was made from black ink pen, watercolors, and colored pencils. I chose different colored water colors and colored pencils to create an abstract pattern on areas such as the hills and the house.
Processes that I used includes the process of layering my watercolors so that they come out as a darker tone than just one layer of watercolor. This was difficult to do without streaking and with trying to make the paint even. I added new lines of the hills to create almost an illusion and I colored them with colored pencil, alternating colors. I like the way the lines came out on the hills because with each hill, the line is going in a different direction and I thought that added a cool touch to it. Also, on the house, I added more pen sections because I knew that I wanted more color in the art work so I drew multiple abstract shapes and colored them will colored pencil. My next steps could be creating a deeper shade with the colored pencil areas because from a far, they look a little too light so I would build up the concentration of the color.
